Coastal Waiheke
An island garden developed over more than a decade, shaped by coastal winds, shifting light and the changing seasons.
The garden is conceived as an evolving composition rather than a fixed scheme. Paths move through successive areas of planting, with shifts in texture, height and colour revealing new views and moments of enclosure.
An experimental approach underpins the planting, with species continually tested and refined in response to the coastal environment. Architectural agave and compact wharariki provide structure, while hunangāmoho, echinacea, euphorbia, helenium and statice introduce movement and seasonal colour. The garden continues to evolve with the seasons, balancing a strong underlying structure with a constantly changing planting palette.
